Avocado Oil
Avocado oil is an edible oil pressed from the fruit of the Persea americana (avocado). As a food oil, it is used as an ingredient in other dishes, and as a cooking oil. It is also used for lubrication and in cosmetics, where it is valued for its supposed regenerative and moisturizing properties. Food-grade avocado oil is increasingly making its mark on international shelves. We get our export grade Avocado Oil products primarily from Californian (United States) and Mexican producers.
Mexico is the main avocado producer in the world with 45% of the world production. It is due to the region’s fertile volcanic soil, ideal climate and centuries of expert cultivation. Mexico remains the source of the world´s finest avocados. Today, Mexico is the only place in the world where avocado trees naturally bloom four times a year.
Producing a year-round bounty of irresistibly rich and creamy avocados whose unsurpassed quality and distinctly delicious flavor are always in season, majority of production facilitators and manufacturers are located at the heart of the avocado production province Michoacan, where 90% of the Mexican avocados are grown.
It is generally accepted that an avocado fruit produces around 10% of its weight in oil. An orchard of one hectare can carry up to 550 trees, which can bear around 5t fruit per year, to produce 500kg of oil. The Avocado pulp contains 5 to 30% of oils.
Only ripe, but not over-ripe, fruit is used. In the first stage of the process, the fruit is crushed, preheated and pumped into centrifuges, where oil is extracted.
The oil is then subjected to the refining process, in which it is degummed, neutralized, bleached and filtered to ensure removal of all impurities. The oil is then winterized at 4°C to ensure stability under colder temperatures, and the winterized crystals are filtered out. The next step is to deodorize the oil, ensuring minimal peroxide levels. Thereafter, the oil is cooled and drummed.
Finally, the oil is analyzed by independent laboratories to ensure that it conforms to the strictest specifications; this includes a 24-hour cold test. The oil is finally dispatched to our international clients in drums and bulk tankers, preserved with nitrogen. Then our distributors repackage and market it.
Avocado oil functions well as a carrier oil for other flavors. It is high in monounsaturated fats and vitamin E. Avocado oil also enhances the absorption of carotenoids and other nutrients.
It has an unusually high smoke point, both unrefined and especially when refined. The smoke point of the unrefined form is 480 °F (249 °C) and the refined form can reach 520 °F (271 °C).[2] The exact smoke point depends heavily on the quality of refinement and the way the oil has been handled up until reaching store shelves and subsequent kitchens.
